Additional Information

MOS 18D training and experience provides a solid background for the Physician Assistant (PA) occupation. PAs, who provide healthcare services under the direct supervision of a medical doctor, must complete a two-year training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. A comprehensive list of Accredited PA Educational Programs is located at the American Academy of Physician Assistants Web site. In addition, PAs must pass the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) examination to be certified as a Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C) as well as meet state licensing requirements.

All states require some form of licensing and many states require that individuals pass the PANCE exam. A portal to State Licensing Requirements for PAs is located at the NCCPA Web site.

You can find more information on the PA profession at the American Association of Physician Assistants and American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants Web sites.
